At a time many schools are struggling with numbers, these Milwaukee schools added football

The sport creates a distinctive vibe, something Kingdom Prep Lutheran and Milwaukee Academy of Science are feeling this year.

Both schools decided the pluses of having a team outweighed the challenges of cost and logistics and even the pandemic.

“I understand the amazing benefits that come from being part of team sports in general but even more specifically football because of your reliance on your teammates that works against the ever-present information our are receiving that it’s all about you,” said Anthony McHenry, the superintendent of Milwaukee Academy of Science and a former University of Wisconsin football player. “Playing football, you can’t do that. It’s all about the team. It’s all about working with one another, it’s all about communication, it’s all about having respect for your teammate.”
